It is time we take the health of our planet into our own hands. We must speak out in a unified, GLOBAL voice to solve this multifaceted plastics crisis once and for all! As with climate change, if we delay dramatic action even by five years, an additional 80 MILLION METRIC TONS of plastic will end up in our precious & delicate oceans. This is equal to about half of all plastics that has accumulated in Earth’s oceans from the start of the plastics era up to now!! Please do not delay. Please for the sake our human health, environmental health, & our future generations—take aggressive action at UNEA.

Thank you,

Kathryn

HOW WILL THIS HELP?

A UN plastics treaty would legally bind all UN Member countries to a high standard of action transitioning to a circular economy for plastics globally and at scale.

The aim is for this treaty to include:

  • Upstream and downstream policies which keep plastics out of the economy, out of the environment, reduce virgin plastic production and use, and decouple plastic production from the consumption of fossil resources.

  • Sets clear direction to unify governments, businesses and civil society behind a common understanding of the causes of plastic pollution and a shared approach to address them. This prevents companies and investors from getting caught up in green washed false solutions, devaluing their efforts by working separately on same issues, or working on “sexy” PR-friendly solutions that have less impact than true, needed, circular solutions.

  • Enforcement and infrastructure to ensure countries all participate and comply! So often we achieve groundbreaking policy yet it doesn’t get enforced, this treaty will see to investment in scale, infrastructure, and skills in countries and industries in most need of international support.
